Cermodel 2017 - Modelling and Simulation Meet Innovation in Ceramics Technology

CERMODEL2017 will take place at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento, via Mesiano 77, Mesiano, Trento (Italy), from July 26 to July 28, 2017.

Congress objectives

Advanced ceramics are continuously delivering significant contributions to technical and economic progress in nearly all industry sectors.

Continuous improvement and innovation is required at all levels of the technology chain, from raw materials to serial production, to ensure competitiveness and to fulfill the increasing expectations. Also, in future, advanced ceramics is facing the everlasting demands for higher performances, improved reliability and efficient cost level. It is important to recognize that innovation is less and less created in “isolated” surroundings but increasingly more in global networks including domain and application knowledge which is a high priority requirement for success in system technologies.

The Congress aims at gathering together international experts in the field of ceramic science and material modelling with representatives from research institutes and industry in order to enhance the communication between experimental materials research and computational work, to improve efficiency in several steps of the processing procedures and to predict the potential of new advanced materials under specific application conditions and for specific functionalities. Beside structural ceramics, special emphasis will be given to ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs), ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) and ultra-high temperature ceramic-matrix composites (UHTCMCs): prospects for successful insertion of these classes of materials are now being researched in aerospace, nuclear and other structural applications.

Key points will be: constitutive modelling, computer simulation and design, experimental calibration and validation of the ceramic forming process and of innovative ceramic products.

A special issue of Journal of European Ceramic Society is planned as the outcome of the CERMODEL2017 congress (submission deadline: October 31, 2017).
