IEEE Italy Section - School of Career Boosting

The IEEE Italy Section, in cooperation with the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento (Italy), organizes the second edition of the IEEE Italy Section School of Career Boosting.
The School is aimed at providing to young graduates in Laurea Magistrale (Master degree) or Dottorato di Ricerca (Ph.D.) in technical or scientific fields a basic overview about modern approaches to organizational and people management. The School provides a great chance not only for learning new skills but also for networking and sharing experiences.
The IEEE Italy Section School of Career Boosting will be held at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento, from February 9th till February 13th, 2015 and it will take place in the Polo Scientifico e Tecnologico "Fabio Ferrari", via Sommarive, 5 - Trento.
A maximum of 30 participants will be admitted in the School, which will be activated if a minimum of 15 participants will be enrolled.

The application procedure has been closed.

Purposes

The School aims at:

  • providing critical knowledge and skills about modern approaches to organizational and people management
  • providing selected information useful to support individuals to develop and manage their careers

Topics and program

The School offers participants the opportunity to acquire basic skills in a broad range of topics, including (but not limiting to) the following:

  • career support
  • entrepreneurship
  • organizational management
  • project management
  • quality engineering
  • innovation management
  • human resources management

Requirements

The School requires a full-time student commitment. The lectures of the School can be either in Italian or in English.

Eligibility

Participants must be EU citizens. Non-EU citizens with a valid permit of stay in EU Countries can be also admitted.
Participants must not have reached their 35th birthday at the starting date of the School and must be graduated in a technical or scientific field.
Applications are also accepted from EU students who expect to complete their degree in a short time.

Application and registration

The application to the School requires filling out the form online available at this web page (please, see the link Application form below the Download box); once the deadline has expired, the form online will be disabled.

The deadline for applying has been postponed to January 22nd, 2015 (preavious deadline January 15th, 2015).

The applicants will be notified about admission by January 26th, 2015.

Registration

The admitted applicants who intend to confirm the participation are required to send an e-mail to the Organizing Secretariat by January 29th, 2015.

The e-mail with the confirm of participation will be valid as registration to the School.

The applicants who do not send the e-mail within the deadline will loose the right to attend the School, and the corresponding place will be offered to the next applicant.

Fee

School registration is free of charge and admitted student will be provided with course materials and access to University of Trento wireless network. Meals, accommodation and transportations are not covered by the School.

Certificate of attendance

At the end of the Winter School participants will receive a certificate of attendance; the certificate will be issued upon verification of the signatures daily taken during the classes.

The qualified applicants of the IEEE Italy Section School of Career Boosting were 26 and the effective participants 22.

... and what did they think about the School?

At the end of the School the participants were requested to complete an evaluation form concerning contents and other scientific aspects, teachers and didactic methodology, organization and logistic.

What about the contents and other scientific aspects...

About contents and other scientific aspects, the participants especially appreciated the usefulness versus their learning expectations (average score 4.12, with 1 = low and 5 = high), the relevance for their professional future (average score 4.24, with 1 = low and 5 = high) and the opportunity of contacts with the lecturers (average score 4.12, with 1 = low and 5 = high).

The most interesting contents pointed out by participants were: the project management, the lecture about real options and the lecture about methodologies for systematic inventing, the opportunity to know about projects, processes, planning and management and the use of case studies.

What about teachers and methodology...

Teachers and didactic methodology (knowledge of contents, ability to explain and involve the participants) were also evaluated very positively (average score from 4.00 to 4.47); more details in the short report.

In general, the participants were satisfied with the School (average score 4.28) and they would recommend the School to their colleagues (average score 4.56).
