The IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2) is the flagship conference sponsored by the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative
The core purposes of the event are:
- to disseminate recent research advancements and novel implementations promoting the transition towards a vibrant innovation-based society
- to promote discussions, partnerships and cooperation between all people involved in planning and implementing successful smart cities
- to increase the citizens understanding and awareness of how their active participation is essential for smart city evolution
The theme of the 2016 edition of ISC2 is Improving the citizens quality of life.

The second edition of ISC2 (ISC2 2016) will be held at the University of Trento (Trento, Italy), from 12 to 15 September 2016.

Trento Smart City Week
The program of ISC2 2016 will be also enhanced by several activities and initiatives within the Trento Smart City Week (10-15 September 2016), such as:
- panels of discussion about topics of interest for Smart Cities, organized in cooperation with AssoInge (Association of Italian Engineers Abroad),
within the Workshop "Engineering trends and business opportunities for smart cities" (Asso2016-TN, 13-14 September 2016)
ISC2 attendees are free to join the Workshop Asso2016-TN. No additional registration fees are required! - demos showing the smart city vision of Trento, and presentations by the Working Groups of the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative on the following topics: Big Data and Open Data, Smart Government, Health and Well-being, Smart Energy, Integrated Tourism, Smart Mobility
- industrial exhibitions on technical solutions for smart and sustainable cities
- a hackathon
