NCM12 - 12th International Conference on the Structure of Non Crystalline Materials

Following the last edition held in Paris, the 12th International Conference on the Structure of Non-Crystalline Materials (NCM12) will be held in July 7th through July 12th, 2013, in Riva del Garda (Trento) Italy.

Scope

The NCM Conference is devoted since the first meeting to investigations on the structure and dynamics of materials where the long-range order typical of crystals is absent, or modified on different length scales. Main subjects of the Conference will include, but are not limited, to the following:

Topics

- Structural modeling of glasses and melts; theoretical aspects
- Short- and medium-range order in glasses and melts (spectroscopy, diffraction, new experimental structural approaches)
- Nucleation and crystallization processes
- Nano-crystalline materials
- Sol-gels and heterogeneous systems
- Nanostructural and microstructural features
- Structural properties of glass surfaces
- Structural evolution under forcing conditions: high pressure, irradiation, photo-structural changes, polyamorphism and reversibility windows; glass to melt transformations
- Relationships between structure and properties: physico-chemical properties (nuclear waste glasses, fast ion conducting glasses, glasses for photonics, specialty materials...)
- Dynamical properties
- Relaxation phenomena

Materials

- Oxide (silica/silicate, borate, phosphate,...), chalcogenide, oxynitride glasses and melts;
- Metallic glasses
- Geological glasses, polymer glasses , bioglasses
- New glass-forming systems
- Amorphous systems, quasycristals, …
- Nano structures in glasses and crystals

Experimental and numerical methods

- Scattering methods (x-ray, neutron)
- Solid-state spectroscopic methods (x-ray absorption spectroscopy, NMR, vibrational spectroscopy methods, ion scattering spectroscopy ...)
- Experiments at extreme conditions (new possibilites using Large Scale Facilities)
- Influence of materials preparation (thermal history, crystal amorphization, etc )
- Microscopy (electron, near-field, surface investigations, ...)
- Numerical modeling including structural modeling, atomistic modeling, and ab initio approches.
