International Summer School in Qualitative Research Methods in Education - Equity in Education - IV edition

The Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, University of Trento in collaboration with University of Bologna, Dipartimento di Scienze della Qualità della Vita, organizes the fourth edition of the International Summer School in Qualitative Research Methods in Education, focusing on the theme “Equity in Education” related to Social Justice Education research.

On one hand the summer school aims at providing students with a theoretical outline of a dramatically current topic. On the other hand it aims at providing practical tools to conduct qualitative research in this field.

The closing date for applications is July 20th, 2013.

Purposes

Providing critical knowledge and skills of qualitative research related to the use of some methods such as: qualitative research methods for advancing Social Justice studies, Feminist research Methodologies, Participatory Action Research and Comparative studies for equity in education.

At the end of the summer school students will:

Know the critical approach of equity in education as a framework in which to carry out qualitative research in education
Be able to master the participatory research
Get or reinforce autonomy in projecting and leading a field research

The lessons will be held at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences from 9.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 16.00

Requirements and language

International Summer School in Equity in Education is addressed to international Ph.D students, Post docs, researchers and lecturers (PhD holders). At least 2/5 of the participants must be non Italian students/researchers.
A maximum of 40 participants will be admitted in the International Summer School, which will start if a minimum of 15 participants will enroll.
The language of the course in English.

Eligibility

Participants must have a Ph.D or be enrolled in a Ph.D program. In addition, a good knowledge of the English language is required (B2 level) as well as a previous knowledge or experience of qualitative research.

Please submit the application form, together with a personal statement and your curriculum vitae. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee.
The closing date for applications is July 20th, 2013.

Fee

The cost of the summer school is 250 € to be paid in two rates. The first one (150 €) is due by the 20^th of July and the second one is due at the first day of the summer school.
Course fees include the following: tuition, all course materials including reading materials, lunch (except of the last day), some social activities, availability of the structures of the Department of Cognitive and Education Sciences and the access to online services and resources (wireless).
