International summer school in "Qualitative research for social justice education"

The Department of Cognitive Science and Education (University of Trento) and the Department of Education (UCLA) are organizing a Summer School in Qualitative Research for Social Justice Education that will be held in Rovereto from June 20 to 25, 2011.

The 2011 edition is continuing and combining two traditions: the International Students summer program organized by the Paulo Freire Institute at UCLA, and the summer school on Qualitative Research Methods organized by the Department of Cognitive Science and Education, within the Masters program in Qualitative Methodology in Education.

Purposes

The summer school aims at providing skills in the field of qualitative research in relations to the use of some methods such as: participatory action research, qualitative research methods for advancing social justice studies, methodology of the generative world (or Freirean Generative Theme research).
At the end of the summer school the students will:

  • know the critical approach of social justice education for educational research;
  • be able to master the participatory research;
  • get autonomy in projecting and leading a field research.

Requirements and language

Graduate students and PhD may apply. Graduate practitioners may be considered for admission.
The working language of the course is English.

Fee

The course fee is 380 euros. This covers all tuition, all course materials, including reading materials and some social activities. Airfare, housing, and living expenses will be the responsibility of the student. In order to prepare the program in advance, the first payment of 150 euros will need to be paid by April 15, 2011. The rest of the payment needs to be paid by June 1, 2011.
