Specialization school for legal professions

The schools aims at giving its students the attitude and skills required to become magistrates, lawyers, notaries and enter the world of work.
Besides the theoretical and legal aspects, the School also deals with practical activities that cover at least half of the total amount.
The specialization diploma one achieves at the School counts for one year of the apprenticeship period required to become a lawyer or notary.
This diploma is also a necesary condition to access the exam to become a magistrate for those students enrolled during academic year 1998/1999.
The specialization school for legal professions was established during academic year 2001/02 after an agreement between the University of Trento and the University of Verona.
The School has a permanent seat with offices and classrooms in both Universities. The administrative seat is at the Faculty of Law to which the ongoing Director belongs.  As regards the two academic years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011, the administrative seat is held by the Faculty of Law of the University of Trento.

Education

The School lasts two years: the first year is common to all students, while the second is divided between:

  • legal-forensic
  • notary.

Intermediate exams are planned. At the beginning of every academic year, the management of the school decides on the examination modalities. According to the total outcome of those exams, the School management decides whether participants can move up tp the second year or not and take the final examination. If a person is not admitted to the second year, and therefore cannot take the final examination, the year can be repeated but only once. The specialization diploma is issued by the Chancellors of both Universities and by the School director after passing the final examination. The final mark is expressed with a maximum of seventy points and is decided by a board made of seven members (four professors, one magistrate, one lawyer and one notary) chosen by the Board of directors of the School.

How to enrol

Admission to the School is regulated by a competition based on either qualifications or tests. All those who have a degree in law according to the old university system,  (vecchio ordinamento) or those who have a Master degree in law (according to Regulation decided under Decree of the Ministry for university and research dated 3rd November 1999 and further amendments, before 29.10.2008) can take part in the selections. The annual number of students who can be accepted in the school is 55.

Call for selections, enrolments, fees
The call for selections is issued every year under ministerial decree.
Participants must pass the selection to be able to enrol in the School.
The deadline for the application is 1st December 2009 at 1pm.
Annual fee: € 1.550,00.
1st instalment € 800,00 by 30th November 2009
2nd instalment € 750,00 by 31st March 2010
Scolarships: the conditions are defined by the Opera Universitaria of the University of Verona.

Organization

The School is an educational entity of the University; the Faculties and Departments interested can take part too. The Universities of Trento and Verona guarantee the School managerial support and logistic and financial resources, as well as staff.
Bodies of the School are:
Director
The School director is elected by the board and is a tenured professor who holds the office for two years. He is nominated under decree of the Chancellor of the University holding the administrataive seat. The Chancellor of the other University is promtly warned of the decision.
The Director represents the School and:
a) summons and presides over the Board of directors and takes care of the deliberations adopted;
b) supervises the didactic and organizational activities of the School, he assures its coordination in respect of the duties of the Board of Directors and of the autonomy of professors.
The Director is a professor of one of the two Universities.
A Deputy-director is also elected by the Director, chosen among the tenured professors of the Board of Directors. The Deputy-Director replaces the Director if he/she is absent.

The Director of the School for the two-year period 2009/2011 is prof. Daria de Pretis

The deputy-director is prof. Giovanni Sala.

Board of directors
The Board of directors of the School has twelve members and holds its seat for four years.
Six of the members are professors in juridical or economic subjects, and are elected equally by the Faculty of Law in Trento and Verona, and then nominated by their Chancellors.
The other six members are two magistrates, two lawyers and two notaries and are elected equally by the Faculty of Law in Trento and Verona among the list of names prepared by the Supreme Magistrates' Council , by the National forensic council and by the National notary council. They are nominated by the Chancellors of the two Universities.
The Board of Directors:
a) deals with the organization of the School and with the selection exams;
b) defines didactic activities;
c) carries out assignments foreseen under art. 94 d.p.r. 11.7.1980, n. 382;
d) elects the School Director;
e) suggests the assignments and teaching contratcs, attributed under decree of the Chancellor of the University holding the administrative seat, prior opinion of the two Faculty Boards
