The quality of the University of Trento finally obtains the just recognition

Third place for the University of Trento in the ranking of the Italian medium universities
“A high-quality university for students demanding high-quality teaching activities”, this is the basic element of the University of Trento, highlighted by the Censis survey and resulting from a policy capable to combine didactics and research, the international relationships and the development of centres of excellence, such as the Laboratory of Neurosciences in the Faculty of Cognitive sciences and the Microsoft Research - University of Trento, Centre for Computational and Systems Biology.

Once more the survey published by Censis underlines the good results obtained by the University of Trento, which conquered the bronze medal with a final score of 93.5, following the universities of Ancona and Sassari. The survey is carried out by Censis and published by the Italian newspaper “la Repubblica” and underlined the high quality format, focusing on didactics, research, facilities and services.

Internationalization, research and centres of excellence are the three cardinal points at the basis of the success of the University of Trento. The winning combination which allowed Trento to reach the highest positions can be summed up in a simple concept: the local authorities, the province and the entire society have always invested and pursued the good results of the University, not only from the economic viewpoint, but also from the cultural and political perspectives. The University is indeed considered as a fundamental driving force for the growth of the area surrounding it.

The livability of the city and the numerous supporting measures for students also constitute important ingredients for the success of the university.
The University Guild supports the University thanks to facilities, services, university restaurants, grants and scholarships and accommodation facilities. Interesting services were activated for disabled peoples, a psychological counselling service, together with the University Sports Centre and the Centre for Languages.

Faculty of Law

The faculty’s positioning was confirmed for the 5th consecutive year, with the first position, in spite of the increasing competition of other Italian university.
The strength points are research, productivity and internationalization, which result from the strong policy focused on innovation and international relationships. The Faculty of Law activated a part from Erasmus, a set of mobility programmes with Latin America and the United States, while double degree programmes have been agreed upon with the universities of Paris and Hamburg. Numerous agreements with foreign institutes allow also for the mobility of PhD students, for example in the field of Comparative law studies.
The comparison among different laws has always marked the activities of the faculty and made it unique and a protagonist within the wide network of international cooperation agreements. The course in Comparative law studies offers also an overall scenario of the various legal traditions of the entire world - from the Jewish to the Islamic to the Indus laws. The faculty also activated courses in Russian, African, Asian and Chinese law.

Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering has recorded a slight downturn, conquering the second position after having kept the first position for three consecutive years.
Research obtained the maximum score (going from 101 to 110) thus transmitting an important message of the significant enhancement made over the last few years, thanks to the integration between didactics and research. Some field of research - both basic and applicative - have reached excellent levels, at national and international level, while didactics take benefit from tools aimed at improving the settling down of freshmen in the university environments, for example through tutoring activities.
The internationalization policy of the faculty (107) has also been praised: the grants for Erasmus students have been used by a number of students higher than the national average and the faculty is a trendsetter as far as the activation of double degrees. In comparison with the evaluation of last year, the score regarding the profile of professors has improved, from 90 to 101. In particular the presence of foreign researchers and professors fosters an open-minded approach, focused on the scientific-technological progress.

Faculty of Sciences

The Faculty of Mathematical, physical and natural sciences ranks third among the small and medium-sized universities, equaling Rome 3, with a final score of 98.4.
Didactics obtains the highest evaluation, thus confirming the efforts of the Faculty in the development of an increasingly wider offer of courses: laboratories, small groups with practical lessons, individual dialogues with the professors, tutoring and research groups are among the tools which it activated in order to foster the positive relation between students and professors.

Students are encouraged to carry out internships in private businesses, public and private research institutions and spend study periods abroad in foreign universities.
Students also benefit from various employment opportunities, ranging from the industrial world (production control, management of the information systems and research); in scientific laboratories, computing and telematics systems of the health sector, the public authorities (in particular as far as the planning of resources, energies and the environment), in universities and schools.
Finally, the acquired skills form an excellent basis for further studies, in the master’s courses or in the Specialization school for teaching, as well as for the normal access to the labour market.

Faculty of Sociology

Sociology obtains the 1st position for the 6th consecutive time, above all thanks o didactics, the profile of professors and international relationships.
If we analyze the history of this faculty we notice that its quality can compete with the quality of foreign universities, as far as services: one professor every 35 students, well-equipped laboratories and an excellent library system. The international cooperation set off at the end of the Nineties with the double degree programme with the University of Dresden and Granada is now accompanied by the master’s courses in English, the internationalization of the professors and the start of new double degree programmes with the Sorbonne of Paris, the Humboldt Universität of Berlin and the Cardiff University.
The faculty is structured in three main areas: the analysis and stratification of the social inequalities; the analysis of the changes of values, for which Sociology is in charge, at global level; the analysis of the migration scenarios and the social capital. The numerous interests are coupled with a wide range of professional opportunities: from research in the third sector, journalism, teaching, politics and training.
