Phone services

There are about 2700 active telephones between the University of Trento two university towns, Trento and Rovereto, connected in a single system which allows incoming calls to be passed on directly to the user's terminal (see "University Phone Book").

Seven hundred of these telephones are VoIP (Voice over IP); alsothe connections between the fourteen phone switch boards are VoIP.

Main numbering between "0461.88nnnn" to "0461.28nnnn"

To allow the expansion of the phone numbering due to the University of Trento new buildings, without changing the existing four digits extension "nnnn", a new prefix+root number "0461.28nnnn" has been activated; it will substitute  the former "0461.88nnnn" in a few months.

For incoming calls both numberings can be used indifferently for the moment; for outgoing calls the new number "0461.28nnnn" ("nnnn" is your extension) will be shown on the receiver's phone display.

It is suggested to start using the new numbering system "0461.28nnnn" as soon as possible, because the number of lines dedicated to the old numbering system will be progressively reduced.

Telephone rules
Specific rules are enforced in order to guarantee a correct use of the phone system: phone calls are in fact, either sent to the Centro di Costo (cost centre) or to the employee, depending on whether the calls were for work or for personal reasons:

  • each phone number is associated with a cost centre and has its own specific profile
  • the profile defines:
  • the chance to make phone calls towards users outside the University system, that is to say telephone traffic with fee (dialling code 0)
  • the chance to make private phone calls (dialling code 4), as long as they are associated to just one person and pre-emptively required
  • one or more names to record in the general public phone book.
  • those responsible for the managerial centres determine the profile of employment of all the phones associated with their cost centres and communicate all the necessary updating
  • all managers regularly receive a statement of phone calls (with dialling code 0) made from their cost centre, in order to check and monitor the expenses
  • in the case of “common phones” (for instance: Doctoral class rooms, study rooms, guest rooms, laboratories etc) external phone calls (dialling code 0) will have to pass through the Department secretary office, Faculty, Head office etc.., that will validate the costs automatically as work phone calls
  • traffic generated from phones assigned to associations, bodies, delegations etc, working within the University will be entirely counted within the costs related to the activities carried out and regulated by specific agreements
