Rankings

Once again the University of Trento gained this year good positions in the national and international university rankings, especcially in the ranking prepared by the Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research.

The University of Trento meets the highest standards according to ministerial evaluation criteria, assigned according to the quality of the research and courses. The ranks 1st before the Politecnico di Torino and the Politecnico di Milano. On a competitive basis, the University was able to obtain research projects funded by the European Commission.

The Italian public opinion and the national mass-media eventually noticed how valuable the University of Trento is, thanks to the excellent positions achieved in the various rankings published on national newspapers and magazines. Among the most popular rankings we find the "Grande Guida", drafted by "La Repubblica", in cooperation with Censis Servizi, the Italian centre dealing with surveys on social investments.   In the last published edition (2012-2013), the University of Trento ranks 2nd among the Italian middle-sized universities (with 10 to 20 thousand students), with a score of 101.3. The University ranks 2nd after Siena and before Trieste and Sassari. The indicators which mainly contributed to achieve this result are web, scholarships, internationalization and services. The University of Trento had made an extra effort regarding such aspects, aiming at a continuous enhancement.

The Faculties of the University reaffirmed their position at the top of the classification, in the relevant fields of study. The Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences (scoring 105.3 it is the Lead faculty of the Group “Sciences 2", the Faculty of Sociology (106.5) and Law (96.8, same as Siena)rank 1st

The 2nd place was achieved by the Faculty of Economics (98.5) and Cognitive Sciences (95.5), while the Faculty of Engineering (97.0) ranks 4th and Humanities and Philosophy rank 13th

In the 2012 Campus Guide to university, published in July 2011, the University of Trento   has positioned itself in third place among general universities (with various disciplines) with a number of 10.000 to 50.000 students enrolled.
The ranking measures university performances according to students’ performances, the appropriateness of structures, the quality of services, the value of research, internationalization, but it also evaluates important aspects for student life such as how qualifications can be used, the transparency of information, evaluation. The average taxation is calculated according to the total resources of the University.

According to the latest shortlist published by the Italian newspaper “Sole 24 Ore”, the University of Trento ranks 9th among the best Italian public universities. The indicators used were courses and research: employment of young graduates, attractiveness, graduation within limits foreseen, overcrowding, the quality of research, funds available for scientific research and the ability to attract external financing.

The international acknowledgement is also testified by other prestigious and independent sources like Quacquarelli Symonds and the Times.

After having edited the universities international ranking for years these two realities known in the 5 continents under the name of THE (Times Higher Education) QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) have separated in 2010, giving rise to two different rankings: one is known as QS World University Rankings and the other one is THE World University Rankings run by Thomson Reuter.

In the last joint international ranking elaborated in 2009 the University of Trento ranks in the range 401-500.

In 2011, according to Quacquarelli Symonds, the University of Trento figures in the range 451-500 and is one of the few internationally noteworthy Italian universities (21). The evaluated disciplinary areas of the University are Engineering and Social Sciences.   

According to THE World University Rankings 2011-2012 edited by Thomson Reuters for the Times, the University of Trento figures in the range 276-300 among the best 400 universities in the world.
