Awards and honorary degrees conferred by the University of Trento

Honoris causa degrees

Universities may confer honoris causa degrees to people who have distinguished themselves in a particular discipline. The proposal is made by the interested faculty and is approved by the University bodies and by the Italian Minister of University. Honoris causa degrees are valid for all legal purposes.
The programme of the ceremony includes: the lectio magistralis, held by the person to whom the degree is conferred, and the laudatio in his/her honour, held by a professor of the faculty.
In the last few years, honoris causa degrees were conferred by the University of Trento to prominent personalities such as the writer Isabel Allende and the Nobel Prize for Economics Daniel Kahneman.
