Center for Neurocognitive Rehabilitation (CeRiN)

The CeRiN is the Center for Neurocognitive Rehabilitation of CIMeC. The CeRiN integrates the rehabilitative centers already existent in region, by setting up a center dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive, language, neurobehavioral and motosensorial disorders in encephalopathic adults activating a structure dedicated to the diagnosis and to the treatment of the cognitive, linguistic, neurobehavioral and sensory motor troubles in brain-injured subjects adults, establishing a collaboration between the University of Trento and the Province (Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari).

The CeRiN carries out neuropsychological diagnostic procedures and treatments plans for all those disorders as a result of cerebral damage. Given the nature of the CeRiN, emphasis is given to speech therapy (due to various language disorders), cognitive therapy (due to deficiencies in memory, visual-spatial analysis, number and calculation, etc.) and occupational therapy (in order to reach a certain level of independence in achieving everyday activities). Physical therapy treatments are also carried out, integrated with those in speech, cognitive and occupational therapy.

The objective of the CeRiN is trifold: provide clinical services essential to the community; train personnel to be capable of carrying out such services; carry out research with the aim of understanding the nature of cognitive disorders and the best rehabilitative methods.

CeRiN’s position within the CIMeC allows for inseperable coexistence of clinical, educational and research (clinical and basic) activity, which guarantees a great innovative potential. Results of the research are transposed to clinical practice, which results are then transferred for educational purposes. This constant exchange guarantees that the clinical activity is able to immediately acknowledge what is obtained during research, which has particular interest (although not exclusive) in clinical applications and met by an updated, high-quality educational standard.
