Psychophysic Lab

The psychophisic laboratories are equipped with hardware and software (E Prime, Matlab, Presentation) specifically dedicated to the preparation of different kind of behavioral experiments. We investigate human cognitive functions (e.g., attention, vision, hearing, language, body representation, concept and action) by recording subject's response times and accuracy in different tasks.A monitor-integrated Tobii 1750 (Tobii Technology) eye tracker is also available for experiments in the Psychophisic labs. The system has 50 Hz sampling frequency and accuracy up to 0.5°. The system is integrated in a 17' LCD monitor controlled by one or two notebook PCs and is easily portable. Tracking is remote and calibration procedures are simple, which allows for recording from patients and children. Clear View software is available for experimental control, which also features an integrated internet-browser for web-usability studies. Furthermore, the Clear View software is compatible with E-Prime stimulus presentation software.

Inside the lab area there has been the need to create a dedicated space for 5 behavioral labs with a waiting room. The workstations are equipped with a PC, CRT monitor and sound speakers; some workstations, used for collecting vocal answers, are also equipped with response box voicekey, microphone and headset. The CRT monitors present in these labs are of various dimensions (up to 21”) and refresh frequencies (up to 200 Hz).

In the image one of the behavioral labs when it has been used for testing the system for studying eye movements, EyeLink 1000 / 2K Desktop System (SR-Research), purchased for the EEG lab. For this particular situation the entire experiment (16 subjects) was recorded, in which it was necessari to monitor and record eye movements in the subject during testing. A CRT monitor with a refresh rate of 150 Hz (iiyama HM903DT B) was utilized for this experiment.
