CCL contributes to a cross-disciplinary approach to the study of Human Communication by promoting a strategic partnership between FBK-irst and CIMEC.

The objectives of the partnership are:

- To address the new challenges in the field of human communication by creating an environment that favours cross-fertilization and contamination. Cross-disciplinary and co-located groups have been formed by people from FBK-irst and CIMEC, and are now part of a new laboratory at CIMEC, the Computational Cognition Laboratory (CCL), jointly set up by FBK and the University of Trento. Current activities are structured around the area of Language and that of Human-Computing and Assisted Cognition.

  • Language
    • New models for concept acquisition and structuring
    • Algorithms and resources for computational semantics
    • Affective language: computational models and neuro-cognitive correlates
  • Human-Computing and Assisted Cognition
    • Systems and services supporting people with cognitive disabilities, aimed at improving the quality of their lives
    • Systems supporting the patient-therapist relationship (diagnosis, therapy, post-therapy monitoring and follow-up).

- To contribute to the formation of the new generation of researchers and professionals by: a) collaborating with the University of Trento (Facolta’ di Scienze Cognitive) in establishing a new curriculum in Cognitive Science focusing on Cognitive Technologies, and in particular, Interaction Technologies; b) working together with the CIMEC colleagues towards strengthening the ‘Doctoral Program in Cognitive and Brain Sciences’; c) supporting young researchers with bursaries for students’ stages and ‘calls for idea’.
