Silvio Sarubbo
Silvio Sarubbo is a reserach fellow at CIMeC. He works with Gianpaolo Basso at the neuroimaging lab in Mattarello.
He is involved in brain surgery for lesions sited in eloquent areas and in fMRI and DTI analyses.
We study the brain functions starting from the evidences provided by pre-operative fMRI and by intra-operative direct electrical stimulation (DES) of cortical and subcortical functional areas and fibres. The main aim of our research is the definition of the plasticity phenomena of re-organization of brain networks and functions in patients who underwent to removal of brain tumours (i.e. low- and high grade Gliomas) and vascular lesions (particularly Artero-Venous Malformations and Cavernomas). We analyze and match together the pre-operative functional neuro-imaging (i.e. fMRI) and the intra-operative DES results, in order to evidence eventual functional re-arrangements over the fMRI follow-ups and a possible pattern for neural plasticity occurrence.
Finally, he is strongly interested in the study (by means of cadaveric dissections with Klingler’s technique and DTI) of human white matter in order to better define courses, anatomical relationships and functional implications of the brain fibres.
