Doctoral Programme
The school aims at coordinating and developing knowledge and abilities of great interest for various fields of Construction science and structure planning and analysis. For this reason the Doctoral programme adopts a modern holistic approach to research, that also refers to other disciplines.
Specific courses and seminars are organized and held by professors from the same university or from different ones who have attested scientific authority and laboratory activities. The courses offer students the chance to acquire various skills in research activity that can be applied with profit in a research, teaching or professional career, in the wide field of Structural and materials engineering.
The two main research branches in the study of materials- the improvement of the characteristics of traditional materials (geomaterials, ceramics, piling, steel, wood, fibre-reinforced polymers) and the introduction of new types of materials (cellular materials, biomaterials, micro and nano structural composites, multifunctional materials)- generate a continuous development of new materials with many different combinations of characteristics and behaviour etc. Along with the growing requests for endurance, reliability, safety and functioning of components and structures made with these materials or their combinations, this branch represents one of the main aims of the Doctoral school.
