Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobilty programme for higher education, promoted by the European Commission in 2003 (under decision n. 2317 on 5.12.2003).
Its general aim is to encourage European education in the world. It offers scholarships funded by the European Union targeted to students from non-EU countries who wish to study in Europe and students from EU countries who wish to study outside Europe (in partner universities).
The University of Trento participates in the following EM (Action 1 and 2) European projects allowing students/university staff to spend a mobility period in a foreign partner university for research/study purposes:

SMART project (Science for Management of Rivers and their Tidal System). The call for applications is open now (deadline 15.01.2013).
NOTE: access to mobility from Europe to third countries is restricted to European citizens only.
AVERROES project, coordinated by Monpellier2, France: mobility to Maghreb countries;
EWENT project, coordinated by the Warsaw University of Technology, Poland: mobility to Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova. The call for applications is open now (deadline 31.12.2012);
MULTIC project, coordinated by the Technische Universitaet Dresden, Germany: mobility to Russia.

The European grant amounts to € 1.500/month per doctoral student to cover mobility expenses, plus the reimbursement of the return trip and health insurance.
