Personal Data Protection

The SMART Consortium is committed to user privacy. The policy on personal data protection is carried out in accordance with Regulation (EC) N° 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000.
The SMART website treats personal data according to the policy described in the Regulation mentioned above and provides information about the use of your data in the specific privacy policy statements as described below.

Information We Collect

In operating our website we may collect and process the following data about you:

  1. Details of your visits to our website and the resources that you access, including, but not limited to, traffic data, location data, weblogs and other communication data.
  2. Information that you provide by filling in forms on our website, such as when you submit personal details to receive information.
  3. Information provided to us when you communicate with us for any reason.

Use of Cookies

We may on occasion gather information regarding your computer’s IP address whilst you are on our website. This enables us to improve our services and to provide statistical information regarding the use of our website where appropriate.
This statistical data does not identify any personal details whatsoever. As a general rule, cookies will not be used.

Use of Your Information

The information that we collect and store relating to you is primarily used to enable us to provide services to you for the following purposes:

  1. To provide you with information requested from us, relating to the Doctoral programme.
  2. To meet our commitments to you.
  3. To notify you about any changes to our website, such as improvements or disruptions, that may affect our service.

Data will not be given to third parties except for other bodies involved in the management of the SMART EMJD Programme (Partners and Associates) and the Agency. Data may be used also by other EU bodies such as European Commission, Erasmus Mundus National Structures, EU Delegations, Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association for facilitating the doctoral candidate access to the joint programme.
Data may also be used for statistical surveys.
Data will not be used for commercial/marketing purposes.
Data supplied by candidates during the application phase will be collected by the University of Trento, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, as coordinating organization of the SMART Consortium, and will be used for the sole purpose of the selection procedure – as per the Italian Legislative Decree/Executive Order (D.L.vo) No. 196 of 30.06.2003. Any information that is obtained in connection with this application form and that can be identified with you will remain confidential and will be disclosed only with your permission or as required by the Agency and by other Erasmus Mundus bodies and laws.
Candidates are informed that the list of selected candidates will be published on the Consortium website after validation by the Agency and that a summary of their research and of their final dissertation, together with the main research output of the candidate, will be made available on the Consortium website.

Storing Your Personal Data

We may transfer data that we collect from you to Erasmus Mundus and EU bodies for processing and storing. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all reasonable steps to make sure that your data is treated securely and in agreement with this Privacy Policy.
Data that is provided to us is stored on our secure servers. The transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure and therefore we cannot guarantee the security of data sent to us electronically and transmission of such data is therefore entirely at your own risk.
Data will be stored for the purposes and objectives of the Programme and of the institutions involved.

Disclosing Your Information

Where applicable, we may disclose your personal information to other Erasmus Mundus and EU bodies or Consortium partners. This includes, where applicable, full, associated and endorsing partners. We may also disclose your personal information to third parties where we are legally required to and to assist fraud protection.

The SMART website provides links to third party sites. Since we do not control them, we encourage you to review their privacy policies. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for their policies whatsoever.

E-mails

When you send an e-mail to the SMART secretariat, your personal data is collected only to the extent necessary to reply. If the management team of the mailbox is unable to answer your question, it will forward your e-mail to another contact person. You will be informed, via e-mail, about which other contact your question has been forwarded to.
If you have any questions about the processing of your e-mail and related personal data, do not hesitate to include them in your message.
E-mails received from prospective candidates are added to a mailing-list to be used solely for the purposes of publicizing the call and related general information.

You have the right to access the information that we hold about you in order to verify its accuracy and, if necessary, to correct it. Should you wish to receive details that we hold about you please contact us using the contact details below.
