Regulations
It is possible to view the the objectives of each course by consulting the Regulations:
Manifesto Studiorum
Regulations 2011-2012
1. the course aims at reaching 66 ects by passing the final test of the teachings
a.for all students there are some mandatory teachings:
i.at least 6 ects must be done within the Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science (Settore ING-INF/05)
ii. at least 6 ects must be done in Economy, Innovation management (Settore SECS-P/07)
iii.at least 18 ects related to the same area chosen within the degree course. The course gives the opportunity to choose at least one area in the sector INF/01 and at least one area in the sector ING-INF/05
b.each year we print the list of teachings corresponding to the above-mentioned point (see here below)
2. two possible specializations can be chosen later
a.I nformatics Technologies and Sciences. It is indicated for students interested to pursue technical knowledge within the Information technology. Students willing to complete this specialization must take the following credits:
i. at least 6 ects must be done within the Theoretical Foundation of Computer Science (Settore ING-INF/05), on top of the 6 ects taken within the common activities
ii.at least 6 ects in the advanced mathematical education related to Computability Theory (Sector MAT/01)
iii.at leat 24 ects must be taken within sectors INF/01 and at least 30 ects in the ING-INF/05 sector (see attachment 1). These credits can be reached by adding the ones received in the specialization disciplines and in the Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science
b.The ICT innovation course is a closed-number program and it is reserved to students which have passed the European Institute of Innovation and Technology of the Center of Competence ICT Labs selection. Students willing to enroll in this course must take the following credits:
i.at least 9 ects within the Innovation & Enterprise management (Settore SECS-P/09); it can be done also by taking interdisciplinary labs
ii.al least 15 ects in ICT Innovation (Settore INF/01); the content must be approved by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology – ICT Labs. 6 ects must be aimed at the analysis of the possibilities in Innovation and Technology Transfer within the Master thesis.
iii.at least 21 ects within the INF/01 sector and 30 ects in ING-INF/05 (Attachment 1). These credits may be reached by adding the disciplines related to your specialization, ICT Innovation and ICT Theoretical Foundations, as written on the previous points.
3. the course is completed with
a.Up to 24 credits of free-choice activities, selected among any of the courses written in the Manifesto
It is possible to choose any course offered t the University; in such case it is necessary to give a motivation letter to justify the choice (please see the section “study plans”)
a. Workshop/Internship; equal to 6 ects. It is a professional experience which gives the student the possibility to deepen the knoledge acquired during the University studies, to pinpoint the future professional choices and to study the possible technological transfer of the research developped during the thesis. It is an educational moment aimed at completing or integrating your studies; is to be performed at companies, professional studios or institutions.
b.Master thesis; 24 credits. The thesis is the research activity and technological innovation developped by the student under the supervision of a professor, of a university researcher or an outside expert.
4. All Master courses are held in English language; it gives us the opportunity to attract international students from all over the world and to establish double/joint-degree programs with prestigeous universities from Europe and the United States. It gives the students the opportunity to improve their English communication skills and to enhance their intercultural experience.
5. Evaluation
All activities from which you acquire credits are evaluated in Thirties, with/without Distinction; this is also the case for the thesis evaluation. The evaluation is voiced by appointed commissions, chaired by the professor responsible for that specific educational area.
c.6 credits-courses are normally evaluated:
i.with a written/oral exam regarding one of the subjects of the course
ii.a software project or a technical/design report to be submitted in sections during the course or to be submitted at complition at the end of the course, followed by a discussion about the project
iii.Lab activities undertaken during the lab hours, followed by the submission of a technical/scientific report and a discussion regarding the lab-work done
d.in the Lab-courses 60% of the mark is related to the experimental lab-activities results
e.the evaluation of the language courses and foreign culture, the workshops and stages are evaluated with a Pass/Fail mark. Knowledge of a foreign language can be attested with an international certification
f.Master thesis evaluation is done by means of the discussion of a written paper, submitted to a professors’ commission and external experts.
i.it involves at least one professor chosen by the student (with his/hers consent) and at least 2 other professors or lectureres of the University of Trento
ii.the discussion is held about 7 days prior the Degree proclamation date. The paper must be delivered to the Student Secretariat at least 21 days prior the proclamation date.
iii.Other requirements might be indicated in the Regulation of the Final Test; in this same document it will be indicated requirements regarding the composition of the Thesis Commission and the presence of external experts (for example for the Double-Degrees)
Each student must produce an individual study plan, which must be approved by the competent educational structure. The study plan must be presented and approved before the new activities introduced by the student. Students can access and online support system geared to assist the student in drawing up the individual study plan, which can be automatically approved online, if it is within the prearanged regulations offered to the students in the online editing.
The student can choose any course offered by the University
a.All courses within this Manifesto do not require any motivation, as they are coherent with the technical/scientific curricula
b.Other choices should be motivated and coherent with the chosen the scientific path. They should allow students with a "laurea passante" to strengthen their background as of art. 5(2).
c.The study plan evaluation and its motivation is delegated from the educational structure to a specific commission, which operates independently and has the authority to request changes. For the activities performed outside the Faculty, the student should get informed in advance at the responsible educational structure about the number of credits, which the activity entitles to acquire.
Certified personal knowledge and professional abilities can be recognized as substitute of internship or stage, as for the law article 5, point 7 of the ministerial decree October 22, 2004 number 270.
Previous years enrollment
Students enrolled before 2011/2012 are subject to the regulations of the enrollment year (see Norme e Regolamenti). It is possible to request to be included in the present regulation by an explicit request. The request is irreversible.
