mathematics
Mathematics is a science that operates to the most elevated levels of abstraction, and proceeds to built its theories in an axiomatic way. The availability of an elevated computational power at low cost, with the development of programs in a position to carry out algebraic and symbolic calculation, in the last few decades has emphasized the experimental aspect of it. Mathematics has always intensely maintained a profitable dialog with all other Sciences. Besides the traditional tie with the Physics, Mathematics, for example, exchanges data with Biology, Economy and Computer Science. On one hand these other sciences bring in problems and stimulus to construct new models and theories; on the other hand, Mathematics supplies instruments and solutions for their problems to them.
All these aspects are studied from the Trento mathematicians, and they are taught in the Bachelor in Mathematics courses. A Trento student in Mathematics can choose, at the level of Three-year Bachelor and at Master level as well, between a wide choice of courses and specializations. These courses range from approaching mathematical research and PhD, to a traditional approach to school teaching; the later also covers the more modern and adjourned aspects of the scientific communication, important as it is, for example, in the more and more numerous scientific museums. There are also interdisciplinary orientation that conjugate the traditional levels of rigor and abstraction Mathematical language, with the results and the methods of an other sciences: the student can choose between the fields of Mathematics and Biology, of Economy and Finance, and Mathematics of Digital Communications. All these fields train the student for the job in a multidisciplinary environment, where several professional figures are present, and in which the mathematician can fruitfully carry its specific competences.
