It has strong competences in research fields such as local governance and socio-economic aspects of local development. These disciplines became a priority on research plans of UB partly to address problems experienced by the Serbian/Yugoslav society in dealing with: underdevelopment, ethnic conflicts and ethnic diversity on local level, decentralization and regionalization, local development within economic, political and social post-communist transition, local governance and European integration, cooperation of local communities within and beyond the state borders.

Due to several decades research on these issues, UB has accumulated valuable experience that can now be shared with other partners from the Consortium, to the benefit of students enrolled in the programme. Students will be able to spend internships and take courses in Belgrade, particularly those that can reflect this specific feature of Serbia as a kind of “live laboratory” of a complex processes of post-conflict transformation.

With well-established ties within the Balkan region, UB is also a valuable partner for promoting students’ mobility and cooperation programmes. in promoting the programme and recruiting the most promising students.
