He is one of the founders of the research unit RUCOLA.
Sociologist, he holds also a degree in Humanities (University of Florence) and is specialised in Action Research in Organization studies (Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, London, UK).
He is vice-dean of the Faculty of Sociology, and president of the Master Degree in “Work, Organization, and Information Systems”, Faculty of Sociology, University of Trento. He sits on the Board of the School of Doctoral Studies on “Sociology and Social Research” of the University of Trento where he coordinates the teaching programme on qualitative methods in social research.
His work has been published in several international journals. His book Organization and Aesthetics (Sage, 1999) has appeared also in French (PUL, 2004), in Portuguese (FGV, 2007), and in Italian (Mondadori, 2008). He is author of the textbook Theory and Method in Organization Studies (Sage, 2000).
Research interests
His main research interests focus on qualitative methods and practice-based theorizing to understand aesthetics, tacit knowledge, and symbolism in organisational life.

Membership of editorial boards
He sits on the Editorial Board of the following international journals:
- Aesthesis. International Journal of art and aesthetics in management and organizational life;
- Culture and Organization (formerly Studies in Cultures, Organizations, and Societies), of which he was one of the founders;
- Management Learning;
- Organization;
- Organizations & Work, Sociology Compass;
- Qualitative Sociology Review;
- Serbian Journal of Management.
He belonged for several years to the direction of the SCOS (Standing Conference on Organizational Symbolism) - researchers' network developed within the European Group for Organization Studies (Egos) - of which he has been co-founder.
He has organised workshops also in collaboration with the European Group for Organization Studies (EGOS), the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), and the Management Centre of the University of Essex, UK, on aesthetics, art and organization, and on social practices, material cultures and organizational learning.
