Presentation

What it is:
the ALP_IS ski-seminar will gather in four subsequent days quality contributions from young as well as established researchers in Information Systems of the area of the Mediterranean Sea: presentations and a lot of discussion in the afternoon, ski in the morning, in Carisolo (Trento).

Goal:
To encourage young researchers in the field to present and discuss their work at ease with  their peers, in an environment enriched by contributions and comments of established senior researchers, thus promoting the emergence of a European – Mediterranean? - style in the social study of IS.

Objective:
Promoting awareness and identity of a European approach to IS, particularly of a Southern European approach, confronted to the historic Nordic/Scandinavian Participatory Design/Socio-Technical approach, contrasted with the traditionally dominating Nord-American one, in  accord with the aims of MCIS - the Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems (held in Venice in October 2006 and 2007 and in Hammamet in October 2008).

Theme:
This year the theme is the social study of IT.
We  plan for 4 sessions dedicated to various sides contributing to the theme:

- phenomenological approach to IS (chair: Giolo Fele, University of Trento)
- social studies of IT markets (chair: Neil Pollock, Edimburgh University)
- interoperability & service orientation (chair: Vincenzo D'Andrea, University of Trento)
- research intervention in organizations (chair: Tommaso Fabbri, University of Reggio Emilia-Modena)

Format :
- four sessions,  invited contributions, both junior and senior
- Thursday evening welcome session, Friday and Saturday sessions in the afternoon, ski in the morning, lots of time for discussion, closing Panel Sunday morning;
- partly structured discussion prepared by a session animator/discussant
- 1000 words position papers distributed one month ahead of time
