“Physics & Medicine. Toward a future of integration” will take place in Trento, from November 6th to Novembre 8th, 2014, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Trento.
The Conference is organized from the University of Trento, the Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari of Trento and the Associazione Italiana di Fisica Medica, on the 50th anniversary of the event “Colloqui sui rapporti tra fisica e medicina” which left an important mark due to its significant contribution to both the establishment of the Medical Physics Departments and the introduction of Chairs of Physics at the Schools of Medicine.
Since then the life sciences experienced a true scientific and technological revolution with significant clinical implications. The goals of the meeting are:
- to provide an overview of the future prospects of physics in medicine and analyze its contribution to address some of the most important challenges offered by the biomedical sciences
- to develop a reflection on the profession and the role of the medical physicist projected in the new organizational models of health services
- to analyze patterns of training and retraining of medical physicists
- to discuss the contribution of research in physics as applied to medicine as an engine for innovation in health care
The event is organized in conjunction with the International Day of Medical Physics, proposed by the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP) for the day November 7th, in which it celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Marie Sklodowska-Curie.
The program also includes some joint sessions with the event Giornate di Studio sul Piano Triennale INFN 2015-2017.
For the professions of physicist (health physicist) and doctor in medicine, the Conference has been recognized as ECM event.
The registrations have been closed.
Registration
The registration to the Conference requires filling out a form online (the form is accessible from this website); once the deadline has passed, the form online will be automatically disabled.
The deadline for registering has been postponed from Monday, October 20th to Thursday, October 30th, 2014 (12.00 Italian time).
Registration fees
Participants must pay a fee; the registration fee includes:
- the participation in working sessions
- the participant kit delivered during the welcome registration
- the lunch and the coffee breaks organized for the participants
- the welcome aperitif and the guided tour at the MUSE, Science Museum of Trento
- the guided tour at the Proton Therapy Facility (Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari of Trento)
- the full fee includes also the social dinner at the Cantine "Rotari" of Mezzocorona, Trento
The accompanying person fee includes only the social activities:
- the guided tour and the welcome aperitif at the MUSE
- the social dinner at the Cantine "Rotari"
- the guided tour at the Proton Therapy Facility

Particular cases
Employees of public institutions with VAT exemption
The VAT is not to be paid if the participation in the Conference is included in
the cases provided for by art. 14, paragraph 10 of Italian Law 547/1993 (payments made by Public Institutions for training, updating, upgrading and retraining of personnel,
pursuant to art. 10 paragraph 20 of Italian DPR 633/72). In this case, at registration, it will be to be selected the corresponding registration fee and the corresponding invoice type.
No later than October 30th, 2014 the participant will have to send to the Organizing Secretariat (by e-mail or fax) a certification of VAT exemption signed by the Public Institution (the certification is available in the download box).
People associated with the University of Trento and authorized by the Responsible
At registration, people associated with the University of Trento and
authorized to participate by the Responsible will have to select the corresponding registration fee (equal to euro 0.00) and the payment method "Free" (it will be made an internal payment).
No later than October 30th, 2014 the participants associated with the University of Trento and authorized to participate by the Responsible will have to send to the Organizing Secretariat (by e-mail, fax or hand delivery) the authorization form completely filled and signed by the Responsible; it is very important to specify the accounting fund that will be used for the payment (the authorization form is available in the download box).
Employees of Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari of Trento authorized by the Responsible
Employees of Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari
of Trento who attend the Conference for training reasons will have to be authorized by the Responsible.
At registration, they will have to select the corresponding registration fee (equal to euro 0.00) and the payment method "Free" (it will be made a payment between organizing institutions).
The APSS of Trento makes available 45 registrations for training reasons; once the number of 45 registrations will be exceeded, the corresponding registration fee (registration fee with payment between organizing institutions) will be disabled; in this case, the employees of APSS of Trento which consider that their participation is justified by training reasons, are encouraged to contact the Commission CFC of APSS, Trento.
Payment
The fee payment may be made by bank transfer or by credit card.
For obvious organizational reasons, it is recommended that the registration and the payment be made by the deadline (October 30th 2014).

- the Conference opening at the MUSE, Science Museum of Trento
- two scientific sessions (the session 1 “Physics of Cancer” and the session 2 “Physics in Medical Imaging”)
- the social dinner at the Cantine “Rotari” of Mezzocorona, Trento
At the conclusion of the Conference it will take place a guided tour at the Protontherapy Facility of the Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari di Trento.
