The Summer School “Networks do matter”: novelty within tradition

The Summer School “Networks do matter" on "Inter-firm Networks for Innovation: an Intellectual Property perspective” brings together the experience of two well established realities: the International Trento Summer Schools Program on Law and Economics and the Transatlantic Intellectual Property Summer Academy.

The former has been co-ordinated by the Department of Economics of the University of Trento, in connection with the PhD program in Law and Economics jointly administered by the University of Trento, the University of Siena and the PhD program in Economics and Management of CIFREM - University of Trento.

The program of summer schools on Law and Economics issues was established in 2002 with the aim to promote communication among scholars of international reputation and young scholars, while creating the conditions for the development of innovative ideas for the advancement of international scientific research on the issues of L&E, with a special emphasis on applications to the study of institutions, norms and economic organizations.

The Transatlantic Intellectual Property Summer Academy (TIPSA) has been exploring since 2007 the issues related to Intellectual Property in the current age. The School steadily developed through cooperation between Bocconi University and the University of Trento, under the scientific coordination of prof. Laurent Manderieux and prof. Roberto Caso. TIPSA. It brings together high-level IP scholars and lecturers from both sides of the Atlantic to identify, explicate and explore the roles of innovation, Intellectual Property (IP) and IP management in  national and global contexts. TIPSA favours an interdisciplinary approach, paying particular attention to the role of technologies in the changes of IP law.

Both Schools have always had a strong international nature, with a significant number of students coming from many countries in Europe and outside Europe. Furthermore, the Schools have hosted prominent scholars coming from all over the world.

The novelty of 2012 is the experience of merging the teaching programs of the two Schools. The organization committee considers of high importance the themes of innovation and the role that networks can have on it. The Summer School “Networks do matter” will therefore explore and analyse highly topical issues, with a multidisciplinary approach, with a dynamic environment of young participants and worldwide acknowledged scholars.
