Andreas Lorke

Dr. Andreas Lorke is Professor for Environmental Physics at the Institute for Environmental Sciences, University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Landau, Germany.
He graduated at the Technical University of Darmstadt (PhD, Dr.rer.nat) in 1998 studying at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries in Berlin (1995-1998). He was Post Doctoral Researcher at UFZ, Environmental Research Center, Department of Inland Water Research (1998-1999) and at EAWAG, Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science and Technology, Department of Applied Aquatic Ecology (1999-2003) and he became Assistant Professor at the Limnological Institute, University of Konstanz (2003-2008).
His research areas cover the following topics: transport processes in aquatic ecosystems; physical limnology; turbulent flows; internal waves and turbulence in stratified water bodies; impact of turbulence and turbulent transport on aquatic organisms and cycles of matter and energy.

Nico Salmaso

Nico Salmaso graduated at the University of Padua (MSc, Natural Sciences) and University of Parma (PhD, Ecology), Italy. He is senior researcher and head of the Limnology and River Ecology group at the Istituto Agrario di S. Michele all’Adige, Fondazione E. Mach (FEM).
His research interests include: the ecology and long term dynamics of plankton and toxic cyanobacteria in relation to human disturbances and climate change; the impact of atmospheric modes of variability on freshwater ecosystems; evolutionary and ecological relationships between cyanobacteria and environmental constraints; ecological statistics.
He planned and coordinated several research projects regarding the limnology and impact of nuisance phytoplankton species in lakes and rivers. He is the contact person of the LTER-site “IT08-000-A”, “Subalpine lakes” (lakes Garda, Como, Maggiore, Orta, Candia). He is part of the working team coordinated by the Ministry of Health and the National Health Institute in charge of defining the Guidelines for the management of cyanobacterial blooms in bathing waters. He is member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Limnology (PAGEPress) and Advances in Oceanography and Limnology (Taylor & Francis). He is also member of the Board of Directors of AIOL, Italian Association for Oceanology and Limnology (2004-2009; 2012-present).
