The Social Dinner event of the International Workshop TRENTO 2009 took place at Cantina Endrizzi, S. Michele all'Adige (TN), on April 7th 2009.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 5th International Workshop on Preferences and Decisions TRENTO 2009, it is my pleasure to thank prof. Sergio Filosi, Dean of the prestigious Art Institute "Alessandro Vittoria" of Trento, as well the accompanying group of staff and students, for their remarkable contribution to the Social Dinner celebrating event in honour of prof. Mario Fedrizzi's 60th anniversary, plus of the strong and long standing friendship and research collaboration between the groups coordinated by prof. Benedetto Matarazzo (Catania) and prof. Aldo Ventre (Naples) and our applied mathematics group at the Department of Computer and Management Siences, Faculty of Economics, University of Trento.
In particular, I wish to express my thanks to prof. Sergio Filosi himself, for his charming and careful organization of the Art Institute contribution to the Social Dinner celebrating event, and for the fine artistical and cultural contextualizing address he delivered at the occasion (see below). Moreover, I wish to thank the Art Institute staff members prof. Lorenza Sebastiani, prof. Elena Filippi, and dott. Anna Pisetta for the inspired and exquisite objects created, as well as the students Saverio Gabrielli and Stefano Visintainer for their splendid musical performance. Thanks also to Ms. Davies
I hope that our collaboration with the Art Institute "Alessandro Vittoria" of Trento continues and develops in further instances of the interface of creativity between Art and Science, following on-going contacts and collaboration with other institutional bodies of the University of Trento, namely the Science Faculty and the Engineering Faculty.

R. A. Marques Pereira.

English version, address by prof. Sergio Filosi,
I wish to express my admiration to the
I also wish to thank Prof. Ricardo Alberto Marques Pereira for the opportunity he gave me to take part in this meeting and to participate with some brief observation.
In recent years our Art Institute of Trento - in which art, music, ballet and soon drama are taught - has become a centre of creativity and research. Having applied a polycentric, wider educational concept (in contrast to the centric school concept) the school is prevented from being confined within its traditional context, with little new content as the only innovation. Therefore, it is a part of our research activity programme to also establish a close link with the universities, as Prof. R. A. Marques Pereira explained beforehand. The target of this connection is to overcome the distinction between art and science - which are still seen to oppose each other. Nevertheless, we strongly believe that there is a profound connection between the domains of art and science. This is called experimentalism. The ambitious aim which we intend to achieve is to research the relationship between scientific and artistic practices; as these two disciplines share a fundamental characteristic: they are signs of the typical human and social skill to give sense to the world through the cognitive process and work.
I deem it important to mention that even though our school, the
The first: consists of three objects that come under the category of applied arts and are precisely based on the ‘fired paint’ technique. This is a technique which combines multicoloured glass pastes and metallic surfaces (in our case, copper). This method was introduced in the Mediterranean area around 1200 BC and reached its peak in
The second: consists of two musical pieces written by E.Grieg and N.Paganini. From Grieg “La sonata per violino e pianoforte n.3 opera 75 (allegro moderato, moderato). From Paganini “Il Cantabile in RE maggiore per violino e pianoforte”.
The performers are students of the Musical Lyceum, Saverio Gabrielli (violin) and Stefano Visintainer (piano).
