By the end of the third year the PhD student submit the request to admission to the PhD thesis review procedure/final examination. 

Alternatively PhD students can ask for up to 12 months of extension of their Doctoral Programme.
The final examination must be taken within 6 month by the end of the programme.

After submitting the request to admission to the PhD thesis review procedure/final examination PhD students must submit to the Doctoral school committee the following documents:

• a report on the activities carried on during the third year 
• the list of the publications referred to all the three years of the PhD programme stressing the personal contribution to each one
• the thesis title 
• a thesis  summary   (at least 3 pages)
• the thesis index (structure in chapters)

The Doctoral school committee, taken note of the above mentioned documents, of the opinion and of the final report of the supervisor, evaluates the scientific value of the results achieved. Then it appoints two or more referees in accordance to art. 29 of the University Regulation for Doctoral Programmes.

In case of positive evaluation of the PhD thesis by the referees and within a month from the acquisition of their analytical judgment, the Doctoral School Committee shall appoint the members of the committee for the final examination, in accordance with art. 30 of the University Regulation for Doctoral Programmes.
The final examination is held in accordance with art. 31 of the University Regulations for Doctoral Programmes and with the guidelines decided by the Doctoral school committee and communicated to the members of the final examination Committee.

If the candidate is involved in international programmes agreements or in co-tutored PhD programmes (“co-tutelle de these”), the final examination committee and regulations are defined according to the specific agreements.
