Ervjola Selenica defended her doctoral dissertation "New States Challenged: Education, Peacebuilding and Statebuilding in Post-conflict Kosovo and East Timor" in July 2016. The thesis focused on the ways in which a variety of international actors shape national education systems in states that have emerged out of armed conflict, and how these systems reflect and affect peacebuilding and statebuilding. Ervjola conducted field research in East Timor and Kosovo, respectively in June-July and October-November 2013. She has a BA of International Relations and Political Science from the University of Bologna and an MSc in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam. She has worked for the International Training Programme for Conflict Management (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa) and as a consultant for UNESCO, the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack, and FRIDE/European Parliament. She is currently an affiliated researcher with the Albanian Institute for International Studies. Her research interests include the political economy and politics of education reforms, state building and state formation in war and post-war settings, peacebuilding, conflict, critical security and the global governance of aid and development.
