Tutor, Thesis supervisor and Thesis Advisory Group
After the admission, Doctoral students are assigned a tutor, who is appointed by the Executive Committee.
The tutor is in charge of coaching students over the first year, specifically:
- supervising students’ coursework activities over the first year;
- helping students in identifying possible supervisors before the end of the first year.
Before the end of the first year, for each PhD candidate the Doctoral School Committee identifies a thesis supervisor (who can be a member of the Doctoral School Committee or an external member) and other two experts (internal or external members), who will form the Thesis Advisory Group (TAG).
The supervisor, assisted by the TAG, has the responsibility to guide the PhD student in his/her study and research activities, to supervise the writing of the thesis and to guarantee the quality of his work until the delivery of the thesis.
