The CENSIS ranking 2018-2019, compiled for the Grande Guida published by la Repubblica, ranked the University of Trento in third position in both the general ranking (which examined 58 universities) and the ranking of medium-sized universities (18), with a final score of 96.8 points.
Universities are evaluated based on 5 sets of indicators: services, scholarships and student aids, facilities, website and internationalisation. Compared to previous editions of the ranking, the University of Trento earned a significant number of points in two categories of indicators, that is:
- Scholarships and student aids (funding from university and public organizations, and scholarships, grants, awards and funding from private organizations based on the total number of enrolled students) (108 points);
- International outlook (number of foreign students on the total number of students; students who went abroad for study or internship on the total number of enrolled students (excluding first year students); foreign students who visited UniTrento on the total number of students; funding for international mobility on the total number of enrolled students (excluding first year students)) (97 points).

The evaluation of the different discipline areas of Italian universities concerns both undergraduate and graduate programmes and is based on two sets of indicators: student progress (number of students who continue from 1st to 2nd year; “on-track” students; number of students who graduate on time) and internationalisation (student mobility after graduation; number of universities involved in student mobility programmes; percentage of foreign students).
The five-year degree programmes in Law and the master’s degree in Psychology reached the top position, the degree programmes in the science discipline area (physics, computer science and mathematics) achieved the second positon, and undergraduate degrees in social and political sciences, languages, and economics-statistics placed third.
