The University of Trento values all identities, including those pertaining to gender and sexual orientation.
The University's efforts go in the direction of revising its own organizational models, procedures, services, and communication in order to create a study and work environment that is inclusive, respectful of individuals, and devoid of discrimination or prejudice.
Several actions have been undertaken to this end, among which are: the creation of alias careers for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals; the participation in national initiatives such as those organized by the National Conference of Equality Bodies in Italian Universities (Conferenza Nazionale degli Organismi di Parità delle Università Italiane); support services; and activities focusing on the inclusive use of shared spaces and language.
The University of Trento promotes research and education on matters of gender identity and sexual orientation through activities that are also open to the broader citizenry, with the goal of promoting respect for and diversity of identities and orientations.
Actions
Alias Careers for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals
The University of Trento has recently replaced the former procedure of "double records" with that of alias careers. These are available to undergraduate and graduate students, research fellows, researchers, professors, and administrative and technical staff, including people with temporary and/or occasional contracts with the University.
An alias career entails the temporary attribution of an alternative identity for those individuals who wish to use a different name than the one given to them at birth as they interact with other people in the University's context. Through such acknowledgement of self-determination, the University aims to facilitate interactions among people in a friendly study and work environment, in line with the principles of correctness, mutual respect of individuals' freedoms, and personal inviolability.
A dedicated document regulates alias careers, which each person can elect to adopt for the entirety of their career at the University.
How to request an alias career
In order to activate an alias career each applicant has to submit a request and co-sign a non-disclosure agreement with a University officer in charge of alias careers.
