The first level Master's degree "Methods and practices in social support for vulnerable individuals" aims to train people who will work in the multidisciplinary team of "Ambiti Territoriali Sociali" (ATS). The course is part of the lifelong learning activities of UniTrento and is aimed in particular at social workers, educators and psychologists employed at municipalities or ATS.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree or an equivalent foreign qualification in one of the following classes:

  • L-19 and former L-18 Scienze dell'educazione e della formazione (Education and training sciences);
  • L-24 Scienze e tecniche psicologiche (Psychological sciences);
  • L-39 Servizio sociale (Social work);
  • LM-50 Programmazione e gestione dei servizi educative (Organization and management of educational services);
  • LM-51 Psicologia; o Laurea specialistica o magistrale in Scienze dell’educazione degli adulti e della formazione continua (classi 65/S and LM-57)(Psychology, Adult education and lifelong learning);
  • Laurea specialistica o magistrale in Scienze pedagogiche (classes 87/S and LM-85) (Pedagogy);
  • LM-87 Servizio sociale e politiche sociali (Social work and social policies).

Master's students can enrol in other courses at the same time if the two courses meet the requirements established by the Ministry of University and Research (Ministerial Decree 930/2022, Articles 2 and 3). For more information visit the dedicated page.

The master's degree aims to strengthen the skills of people working at ATSs as regards:

  • their knowledge and ability to recognise the regulations in force and the aspects that govern social policies, influence the welfare system and determine the mechanisms that ensure the inclusion, social protection and support for minors and adults;
  • their knowledge and ability to recognise the main characteristics of the phenomenon of poverty and the main resources and practices to support inclusion processes and combat poverty;
  • their knowledge and ability to recognise the main characteristics of family vulnerability and of the measures and resources to support children and families and the main intervention practices considering both the situations of hardship and fragility, and those that require protection measures.

In a multidisciplinary vein, the master's degree aims to strengthen the ability of the participants to encourage the involvement of adults and minors in the adoption of decisions and measures that affect them.

The master's programme has a duration of 14 months. Classes will take place from January 2026 until January 2027, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (there may be some exceptions). All activities must be completed by March 2027.

The language of the course is Italian.

Students are required to attend at least 80% of classes.

Students who have participated in the Master's activities and passed the assessment tests and the project work will be awarded a first-level Master's Degree in "Methods and practices in social support for vulnerable individuals".

The registration fee is fully covered by the funding provided by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies (notice no. 120 of 13 May 2025), unless the 80% attendance requirement is not met. In that case, students will be required to pay a registration fee based on their attendance, as established by article 7(2) of the call for admissions.

Admission to the master's program is through a call.

Each call for admission states:

  • the access requirements;
  • the admission method;
  • the deadlines;
  • costs and scholarships.

Applications must be submitted online by 12.00 of 15 November 2025 using the online application form that will be available from 15 November 2025.

The following must be attached to the application in pdf format:

  • a self-declaration of your degree, with information on the programme of study, the "classe di laurea", the final mark and the name of the University that awarded it;
  • a self-declaration that you are employed by a municipality and/or ATS and that you work in the social services sector, describing your tasks in detail;
  • your CV;
  • a motivational letter.

A committee will review the documents you submit and draw up a ranking of applicants that will be published by 22 December 2025, awarding up to 50 points for the CV and up to 50 for the motivational letter and the interview.

To be admitted, you must obtain at least 60/100 points.

Successful applicants must confirm their place by 12:00 on 9 January 2026.

The course will start with at least 20 participants (the maximum number is 45).
