The University of Trento has three core objectives: education, research and the third mission.

The third mission, in compliance with ANVUR’s guidelines, includes all the initiatives that the University carries out to support the economic, social and cultural development of the community, and specifically:

Research valorization 

Research valorization focuses on the area of technology transfer and university entrepreneurship aimed at translating public research findings into goods and services. For the purposes of the 2011-2014 VQR (research quality assessment), ANVUR considered the following areas: management of intellectual property; university entrepreneurship (spin-offs); collaborations with third parties; other tools (science parks, incubators, technology transfer offices, placement offices).

The production of public goods of social, educational and cultural value 

The production of public goods of social, educational and cultural value allows for the direct participation of the University in knowledge society through multiple strategies, initiatives and tools that enable mutual relationships among institutions, researchers, organizations and public bodies with the objective of creating shared value. For the purposes of the 2011-2014 VQR, ANVUR considered the following areas: production and management of public goods (museums, archaeological excavations, buildings of historical importance); health protection (clinical studies, research infrastructure, medical education); advenced training; public engagement.
