Introduction to Sustainability Assessment

Lecturerers: prof. Angus Morrison-Saunders, prof. Jenny Pope (Edith Cowan University, Western Australia)

Coordinator: prof. Davide Geneletti

Sustainability assessment, broadly defined, is a process for directing decision-making towards sustainability. While sustainability assessment can be applied in many different contexts by different types of decision-makers, this course will focus on forms of sustainability assessment that are aligned with ex ante impact assessment principles and practices. In other words, sustainability assessment can thus be considered an advanced form of environmental impact assessment (EIA) that takes a more holistic and integrated perspective. This course will build upon the students’ current studies in EIA, encouraging and empowering them towards innovation and best practice in their future professional roles.
