Bob Mertens
Bob Mertens is an academic with a background in public administration and European studies. He holds a Ba and Ma in Public Administration from the University of Ghent in Belgium and is in the process of completing the Ma in European Studies from the University of Florence. His research interests include refugee status determination processes, asylum bureaucracies and the ethnographic analysis of street level bureaucrats.
Bob is currently pursuing a PhD on the influence of asylum offices on refugee status determination processes. He has also gained practical experience as an intern in the cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Migration and the Governor of Antwerp, which complements his academic work.
