Due to the fecal excretion of SARS-CoV-2 by symptomatic and asymptomatic people, capillary monitoring of the virus in wastewater can give timely indications on the spread of the infection in a territory, anticipating its evolution trends. This strategic approach has great potential but there remain several aspects to be explored, as it is a non-routine analysis. The project, therefore, aims to optimize the methods for researching SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater, to investigate the environmental factors that interact with the virus, and to correlate the results with official clinical data in the context of the innovative Wastewater Based Epidemiology.
