ALP WATER SCARCE
Water Management Strategies against Water Scarcity in the Alps
Alp-Water-Scarce - Water Management Strategies against Water Scarcity in the Alps - is a European project funded by the Alpine Space programme under the European Territorial Cooperation 2007-2013. Alp-Water-Scarce started on the 1st of October 2008 and ends on the 30th of September 2011. It deals with developing water management strategies and an early warning system to prevent the Alps from water scarcity.
The activity can be summarized as follow:
- experiments on the optimal ecological flow using numerical models and simplified solutions;
- experimental activity carried out on the Fersina flumes facility to investigate single aspect relevant from the ecological point of view;
- field activity on the final reach of the Noce river from Mollaro to the confluence with Adige river; hydraulics, thermic and morpho-dynamics data will be collected and used to understand the spatial-temporal distribution of water temperature and bed sediment useful to apply and verify the models used in the project.
The final goal is the comprehension and the quantification of the flow regime ecologically compatible in rivers with strong hydro-morphological alteration. In particular we want to understand the dynamics of transport processes associated to strongly irregular temporal pattern of peaking events due to hydropower plants releases and to the environmental flow.
