The University of Trento, approaching the conclusion of the experimental project “Richiedenti asilo all’Univeristà” (2016-2021), has renewed its commitment to asylum seekers and refugees, planning the launch of a new project, called “Progetto Formazione Universitaria per Rifugiati/e e Richiedenti asilo - FUTURA”.
Strengthened by the experience and with an increased know how on the guidance methods, the challenges and the needs of the initiative, the University of Trento has therefore renewed its intention to proceed with a new edition of the Call for Applications (in the following).
A new aspect of the project will be the possibility to attend an “insertion year”, to be completed before the start of the university career (Foundation Year). The aim of the insertion year is for the candidates to gain linguistic and cultural skills, necessary to pass the admission test and useful for their university studies. .
The project is addressed to people seeking and/or holders of international protection, who aspire to undertake a study program at the University of Trento.
As part of the initiative, 5 students will be selected every year. Students from all over Italy can participate.
Admission will be made through a selection process.
The support services available for the students focus on five main areas:
- Evaluation of qualifications;
- Tools to support the right to education;
- Accompanying measures for inclusion in the academic context and tools for the participation of refugee people;
- Supporting measures for the integration into the local community;
- Tools to support post-graduate job placement.
In order to support the students along their university cycle, the Project provides an articulated tutoring and support system before and during the academic path:
- Exemption from courses payment
- Accommodation and board
- Peer-to-peer tutoring and mentoring for the beginning orientation and during the University
- Subscription to Trentino free traveling pass
- Unisport card
- Possibility of part-time collaborations within the University facilities.
In order to be included in the Project, out of a total of 180 credits needed to achieve the degree, students are required to achieve predetermined formative goals.

Fundraising “Adotta un@ studente”
The campaign "Adotta un@ studente", promoted by the University of Trento, aims to collect contributions which will be distributed as monthly pocket money for the students of the accommodation project for refugees and asylum seekers. The amount for each person allows them to meet the daily expenses not covered by the university fee, such as textbooks.
The first two editions of the Campaign made it possible to guarantee a monthly scholarship of about € 75 to 11 students for the years 2019 and 2020. The University of Trento is committed to continuing the collection for the years to come, to support students who are about to start their journey.
