Washington University in St. Louis-WUSTL ranks among the best American universities.
The double degree agreement gives UniTrento students the opportunity to obtain the American Master of Laws qualification (LLM) which allows access to the bar exams required to practise the legal profession in a number of US states.
The LL.M. degree certifies knowledge of US law and is highly valued in the legal profession job market by both Italian and foreign employers.
To date, the Transnational Law Program-TLP has been completed by more than 50 students, 9 of whom have taken the Bar Exam in New York State.
Applications are welcome from UniTrento students enrolled in the second year of the single-cycle master's degree in Law who:
- have already passed 5 of the 7 fundamental 1st year's exams (the 6th exam has to be passed by July before departure);
- have already obtained 42 credits with a weighted average of at least 26/30,
- have a C1 level of English (TOEFL with a score of at least 90 points, or IELTS Academic module with a score of at least 7.0).
The admission process must be completed by the deadline indicated by WUSTL (usually the month of May prior to mobility) The following documentation is required for the admission procedure:
- certification of your English level (TOEFL or IELTS, not older than 2 years)
- two letters of recommendation from UniTrento professors;
- a transcript of records in English of exams taken and those still to be taken.
Once formally admitted to WUSTL, you will receive an admission pack containing all the necessary information and as soon as your participation in the programme is confirmed, the procedure for obtaining the module for the I-20 visa for study will be initiated.
For this procedure students will have to present a Financial Certification, a module to complete with the help of a sponsor or family member confirming that you have the necessary resources to support yourself during your period of study at WUSTL.

The participants will spend 2 semesters at WUSTL. The first semester will start with an intensive orientation period.
All students must agree their study plan with the supervisors of the two universities, and WUSTL must receive it by April, before the start of the programme.
WUSTL grants UniTrento students a reduction on tuition fees (24.000 USD/year instead of 67.000 USD) for the LLM. Student can also apply to obtain a scholarship from UniTrento.
At the end of the mobility, the participants return to UniTrento, pass any remaining exams and defend their thesis.
At the end of the programme, the students obtain:
a US LLM in Intellectual property and Technology, or an LLM with a concentration in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, or an LLM (Custom) from WUSTL, and
a Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico in Giurisprudenza, from UniTrento.
