To take advantage of the services, adjustments and equipment made available to individuals with specific learning disorders under Law 170/2010, complete the Declaration of Disability, DSA and other special needs where you can also upload the certificates you were issued (e.g., certificates and diagnostic reports). Your declaration will be stored in your reserved area of Esse3 in Segreteria > Dichiarazione disabilità e DSA, for the entire duration of your studies.

Before completing the application, make sure you have the certificates you want to attach in PDF format.

The certificates must be:

  • issued by the National Healthcare System or by accredited specialists and structures;
  • complete in every detail;
  • valid.

Certificates issued before you turned 18 are valid for 3 years, those issued after 18 years of age are permanent.
If you do not have an up-to-date certificate, contact the Student Community Inclusion Service.

Equipment and/or adjustments you can use to take university exams are agreed after a meeting with the DSA service, that will help define the what based on the disorder you have been diagnosed with.

After the meeting, the adjustments and equipment you were given will be entered in the Esse3 system so that authorized administrative staff and faculty members will be informed of your situation when you register for an exam.

Below are some of the possible adjustments:

  • use of concept maps or bullet-point outlines (faculties must be informed beforehand)
  • extra time for oral exams
  • extra time for written tests (maximum 30% more than the total duration of the test)
  • exemption from reading aloud
  • exemption from writing under dictation
  • use of digital vocabulary
  • evaluation of written and oral tests with methods that take into account content rather than form.

To access these measures, follow the procedure indicated by the University (how to make a request in Esse3, deadlines, etc.). You can find all information about the procedure in the dedicated online community, that you can access with your @unitn credentials. If you do not comply with the deadlines, faculty members may not be able to meet your demands.

Measures and aids for language proficiency tests at the CLA
Based on your diagnosis, you may receive specific aids or equipment to take language proficiency tests at the University Language Center (CLA), that will be defined during the meeting with the Inclusion service. You can find more information on how to apply for these adjustments on the dedicated pages on the CLA website.

Individualised tutoring

This service for students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) is granted at the request of the applicant following an in-depth assessment of their personal educational needs.

The service is provided by student tutors who usually are enrolled in the same course as the applicant, who have been selected to provide tutoring activities.

Based on the applicant's needs, tutors can help with:

  • defining and organizing an individual study plan
  • studying in preparation for tests and exams

To request content-specific tutoring, applicants are required to fill out the online form. If the Inclusion service deems it necessary, they will contact the applicant for an online or in-person interview to better define the support they need.

Requests for content-specific tutoring are accepted:

  • from the beginning of classes until 15 November for the first semester
  • from 1 March to 15 April for the second semester

There is a maximum number of hours of tutoring per semester that can be awarded in each academic year.

To request tutoring for general support, email to [email protected]  preferably by November of each academic year, so that support can be organized in a timely manner.
The Student community inclusion service commits to fulfilling all requests received, provided there are enough tutors available and with the desired skills.

In addition, the staff of the SLDs office is always available for general support meetings on study methods and other difficulties you may encounter in choosing and using adjustments and equipment.

Language tutoring

The University Language Center (CLA) offers a language tutoring service (for English, German, Spanish, and French) to students with special needs to help them attend classes and prepare for exams.

Tutoring includes an initial meeting with a tutor of the chosen language, followed by a series of (maximum 4) meetings based on individual needs. To access the service and book meetings with the tutor, the adjustments and equipment necessary for your course of study must have already been defined through the Student community inclusion service.

For further details, consult the dedicated page on the CLA website.

SmartPen on loan for free

The SmartPen is a tool that allows you to take notes effectively, recording both what you write and the audio of the lesson. You can listen to its contents at any time, directly from the pen or via computer. One of the main functions of the SmartPen is the synchronization between writing and audio: once you have finished writing, you can touch a word on the paper to listen to exactly what was said at that moment.
UniTrento students with an SLD will receive every year a notification informing them of the outcome of their request on their institutional email account (usually between November and December).

ePico! SmartPen on loan for free

ePico! is software designed to support students with SLDs in their studies. This USB device offers six specific environments designed for reading, writing, studying, organizing information, computing, and creating maps. All environments can be used with speech synthesis.
UniTrento students with an SLD will receive every year a notification informing them of the outcome of their request on their institutional email account (usually between February and March).

Texts in accessible format

If you have an SLD certification, you can request texts for exams in accessible format from the Student Community Inclusion Service, but only if they are available in paper format. To make a request, send an email to [email protected].

Resources for attending lessons

To make your university experience more effective, facilitate study, and improve understanding of lectures, you can:
