iNEST is the interconnection of multiple ecosystems, each of which is associated with a theme. The iNEST model is based on the extensive use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and digitalisation, and aims to develop innovative technologies for the well-being of people and the dissemination of culture and economic and entrepreneurial growth.

The University of Trento leads Spoke 2 on Health, Nutrition and Lifestyle, addressing the challenges of Smart Specialisations in Trentino and throughout the north east of Italy, through an integrated action that capitalises on a wide range of complementary skills.

Spoke 2's mission, with a focus on citizens/patients, is to develop technological and social innovation to promote human health and well-being and support the digital and green transition of the healthcare systems of the region. Spoke 2 pursues this ambitious goal using enabling technologies and sciences such as Artificial Intelligence, Digital Health, Biotechnologies, Omics Technologies, Electronics and Robotics, in the social, historical, economic and psychological context. The technologies will be integrated to contribute to the digital transformation of the social and economic system of the area, promoting innovative treatments and therapies for a healthy lifestyle and monitoring their impact on citizens and their quality of life.

The success of Spoke 2 within iNEST will be the result of the synergy between the five participating institutions - University of Trento, Fondazione Bruno Kessler, University of Verona, University of Trieste, Fondazione Hub Innovazione Trentino-HIT, clinical partners and research-oriented companies.

Spoke 2 has published two Waterfall Calls for the North-East and the South of Italy, respectively, aimed at stimulating research, development, technology transfer and education initiatives by Micro, Small, Medium and Large Enterprises.
