The University of Trento is committed to support initiatives aimed at overcoming gender imbalances and ensuring equal opportunities both within the organisation and in the region.
This commitment is translated into many actions that range from monitoring and data collection to strategies aimed at supporting the underrepresented gender, combating any discrimination and violence based on gender and establishing better balance in the programmes of study, in recruitment and career advancements, in decision-making and recruitment bodies, in the daily life of the University.
For administrative and academic staff, over the years the University has also adopted regulations and support measures for the reconciliation of work and family life and established a childcare centre, the only university to do so in Italy.
Policies were adopted to fight harassment and mobbing related to gender, including Guidelines for the use of a language that respects differences.
To make its action more effective, the University collaborates with other social and cultural actors at the local level, including the world of schools.
The University is also committed to enhancing its support for the LGBTQIA+ community and their inclusion. As part of this effort, UniTrento adopted a policy that enables transgender or gender non-conforming individuals to use a name other than their given name within the university community.
The actions that the University implemented in this area are described in more detail in its programming documents: the Strategic Plan, the Plan for Positive Action (which has been included in the Integrated activity and organisation plan - PIAO), the Gender Equality Plan and others. The planned actions are monitored and reported in various documents, in particular in the Gender budget.
