Students are required to know and respect the provisions that govern their activity at the University, and in particular, the University regulations governing PhDs, the Internal Regulations of their PhD Course, the University Code of Ethics, the Regulations of the Students of the University of Trento, the Student Code of Honour and the Charter of the Rights and Duties of Students.

The rights and duties of PhD students are regulated as follows:

Every member of the university community has the duty to avoid any form of plagiarism or improper use of the intellectual work of others, as research is based on the correct recognition and fair attribution of intellectual property.

Furthermore, it is everyone's responsibility to report any violations of which they become aware. Plagiarism or improper use of intellectual property is particularly serious if it arises from negligence or abuse of a hierarchical or academic position. In particular, with regard to the drafting of theses and papers and the administration of exams, each individual must scrupulously adhere to these rules, avoiding any form of plagiarism and dishonest behavior.

PhD students involved in a thesis co-supervision programme are required to follow the study and research activities as defined in the specific agreement signed with the partner university abroad.

Scholarships funded by external bodies, which require a specific research activity to be carried out bind the assignees to the performance of that activity.

At the end of each academic year, the Teaching Board evaluates the training and research activities carried out by each PhD student and makes a decision about their admission to the following year or to the final exam. A negative evaluation may result in exclusion from the PhD Programme (art. 27, c. 4 of the University Regulations on PhD Research).

If correctly enrolled in this University, all doctoral students benefit from two types of insurance coverage for the specifically authorized performance of institutional activities in Italy or abroad:

  • for injuries suffered;
  • for civil liability against damage caused to other people or things.
