Are you getting ready to leave for an international mobility trip? Organize your journey and your accommodation in advance to avoid any last minute problems.

Viaggiare Sicuri (Travel Safely), the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - MAECI, is the point of reference for all Italian citizens planning to travel abroad. Choose your destination from the list of countries and check which documents and visas are required for entry as well as any necessary vaccinations.
The site also gives advice about emergencies and other situations to be aware of.
In addition to Viaggiare Sicuri, the ministry also provides the ‘Dove siamo nel mondo’ service (Where we are in the world). Through this service, you can share information about your journey with the crisis unit of the Farnesina so that in the event of a crisis or serious emergency (natural disaster, terrorist attack, serious political unrest, pandemic, acts of maritime piracy) it will be possible to contact you. In these exceptional circumstances it is important to be able to reach you quickly, and if you are directly involved, to provide help.
It is possible to download the Viaggiare Sicuri app, which integrates the services provided through Viaggiaresicuri.it and of Dovesiamonelmondo.it

When you leave the country for a trip abroad you must take a valid identification document with you. ‘Valid’ means two things: it must not be out of date; and it must allow entry into the destination country.
If you are travelling to countries within the Schengen Area, your identity card will be sufficient. If the destination country requires you to have a passport, check that it will be valid for the dates of your trip, including the return, and if not, request a new one in plenty of time. Remember that some countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months after the date of your trip. For example: if your return journey is on 10th January, some countries will require your passport to be valid until at least 9th July.
Depending on your destination, it may be necessary to obtain a visa. You can find information about travelling to any destination through the Viaggiare Sicuri site using the countries search tool. If a visa is necessary, you will have to visit the embassy or consulate of the destination country in Italy to apply for it, and you will then have to go there in person to collect it. Visas for the USA are an exception.
If you need an invitation letter to present to the embassy or consulate, contact the relevant International Mobility Office to request the invitation letter. Always take a photo or carry a photocopy of your documents with you: these will be useful if you lose them during your trip.

If you are travelling to a country within the European Union, and do not suffer from any particular pathologies, it is sufficient to take your Italian health card, which is in fact a TEAM (European Health Insurance Card), with you.
We recommend, however, that you consider taking out private health insurance if you are travelling to a destination outside the European Union.
Take any necessary medicines with you if you think you may need them.

The international mobility programme is covered by an accident and third party liability insurance policy provided by UniTrento. A summary with details of the accident and third party liability insurance conditions (also in English) is available in the documents below.
