The Fulbright programme was established after the Second World War to promote the peace process through cultural exchanges between the United States and the other countries in the world. Today, it is the largest international cultural exchange programme of the United States in Italy.

In Italy, the programme operates through the  US-Italy Fulbright Commission and provides scholarships for study, research and  teaching.
