The University of Trento was among the first Italian universities to adopt a Gender Equality Plan-GEP, a document that outlines guidelines and actions to be implemented in the pursuit of equity. These actions range from balancing private and professional life to achieving gender balance in governing bodies and leadership positions, promoting equality between women and men in recruitment and career advancement, integrating the gender dimension into research and course programmes, and combating gender violence, bullying, and harassment.
Horizon Europe includes a series of measures introduced by the European Commission to encourage increased gender equality in research and innovation. More specifically:
- the Gender Equality Plan (GEP) is a requirement for admission to Horizon Europe funding;
- integration of the aspect of gender in the content of research and innovation is a mandatory requirement for the whole programme;
- gender equality in the evaluation commissions, consultative bodies and expert groups, among researchers, is a criterion for preference between proposals with the same evaluation score.
The GEP is required in order to access funding under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
