The Fulbright programme was established to promote the peace process through cultural exchanges between the United States and the other countries in the world through education, culture and research.
In Italy, the programme started in 1948 on the initiative of the US and Italian governments, and currently operates through the US-Italy Fulbright Commission.
The Fulbright programme awards scholarships to Italian citizens who are interested in conducting research (Fulbright Research Scholar) or teaching in the USA (Distinguished Lecturer), but there are also other opportunities.
The Distinguished Lecturer scholarships give lecturers the opportunity to spend 3 to 5 months teaching humanities and social sciences disciplines in US universities welcoming Italian scholars (Northwestern University, University of Chicago, University of Notre Dame e University of Pittsburgh).
For Italian language teaching consider the Foreign language teaching assistant program.
