The PhD, which is the highest level of education in Italy, is aimed at training research experts for universities, and public and private bodies, and contributing to scientific and technological progress. The path includes an advanced training phase followed by the development of a research project.
A PhD lasts 3 years (some courses last 4 years) and begins on 1st November, with mandatory attendance. To access the course, a master’s degree or equivalent qualification is required.
Admission is through a public selection procedure, with calls published between February and September for each individual PhD course.
At the end of the doctorate, the thesis is evaluated by experts and, if approved, the title of Doctor of Research is conferred by the Rector.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and cover the entire duration of the course, while fees are limited to an annual provincial tax of €150 and a stamp duty of €16.
