COURSE SUMMARY
The PhD programme in Cognitive science, offered by the Department of Psychology and cognitive science in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler, is the evolution of previous programmes in the fields of Psychological and Educational Sciences.
Students participate in intensive courses and conduct research activities under the supervision of faculty members, completing their experience with a six-month period at a foreign institution.
In addition to being the highest academic qualification and a fundamental step for an academic career, the PhD also opens up career opportunities in research laboratories, public administration, healthcare, and private practice.

The PhD program in Cognitive Sciences, starting from the academic year 2025/26 (41st cycle), will assume the new name of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, as indicated in the admission call.

To apply for the PhD programme, you must have:
- a specialist or master's degree or a degree issued under the previous regulations;
- a second-level diploma awarded by higher-education institutions for the fine arts, music and dance (AFAM, Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale);
- an equivalent academic qualification obtained abroad (master's degree) that allows admission to the PhD program in the education system or in the country of issue and that is considered suitable by the selection committee for the sole purpose of accessing the course.
Students who plan to graduate by 31 October 2024 are also eligible.

For this doctoral course the following are available:
- 11 scholarship;
- 1 additional position reserved for candidates who meet the requirements set forth in Article 18, paragraph 3, of the University Regulations on Doctoral Research.
The three-year scholarships are funded as follows:
- 6 scholarships funded by the University of Trento;
- 2 scholarships funded by the Bruno Kessler Foundation related to the following topics: 1. Fairness and bias in generative NLP 2. Artificial Intelligence for education and self-improvement;
- 1 scholarship funded by the MUR within the "Departments of Excellence" initiative (Law 232/2016), Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences, CUP E73C23000020001;
- 1 scholarship funded by the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences within the "VIPPSTAR - Visually Impaired children and adolescents: bridging the gap with Personalized Prevention Strategies, Tools, Approaches, and Resources" project (CUP E73C240006100006), related to the following topic: Enhancing psychophysical well-being of visually impaired pre-adolescents and adolescents through technology-mediated rehabilitation and psycho-educational interventions;
- 1 scholarship co-funded by the Italian Buddhist Union - U.B.I. and the University of Trento, related to the topic: Non-dual consciousness and meditative states: neuroscientific and technological approaches.
